Last October, my group and I visited Cahaya Kasih Orphanage as part of the Saint Mary Way program. Before the visit, we held several short meetings to prepare our activities and the items we wanted to bring. We collected snacks, coloring supplies, and several sets of small puzzles for the children. Even though some of us felt a bit nervous, we were all excited because this was our first experience doing a service activity as a group. We hoped that our visit could bring joy, warmth, and meaningful moments for the children.
— Events
When we arrived, the children greeted us with big, cheerful smiles. Their friendliness immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable. We began by introducing ourselves one by one, and then we invited the children to do the same. Some of them were shy at first, but as soon as we started talking casually, they became more relaxed.
Our first activity was coloring. We gave them coloring sheets of animals, flowers, and simple characters, along with crayons and colored pencils. The children were very enthusiastic. Some colored quietly and carefully, while others excitedly asked us to help them choose colors or teach them how to shade certain parts. Seeing their creativity and confidence grow made us feel happy and proud.
After coloring, we continued with the second activity: puzzle time. We brought several small and medium-sized puzzles, suitable for their age. We divided them into small groups and guided them as they worked together. Many of the children were very focused, trying to find the right pieces and helping their friends complete the picture. When a group finally finished their puzzle, they cheered happily. The teamwork and joy they showed were truly heart-warming to watch.
When the activities ended, we distributed the snacks and small gifts we had prepared. The children looked very grateful, and their smiles made all our efforts feel worth it. One of the caregivers thanked us warmly and explained how activities like these help the children feel supported and appreciated.
— Reorientation
Before leaving, we took photos of together and said goodbye warmly. We promised that we would return again if we had the chance. The visit taught us about empathy, teamwork, and the beauty of giving without expecting anything in return. It was an unforgettable and deeply meaningful experience for all of us.
